Undersecretary Guglielmo Picchi takes part in the OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum
The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Guglielmo Picchi, today attended the Economic and Environmental Forum of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Prague, speaking at the opening session as the representative of the Chairperson-in-Office. The Prague Forum is the OSCE’s main event on economic and environmental issues.
Undersecretary Picchi stressed how the Italian Chairmanship immediately focused its efforts on strengthening dialogue in the OSCE area also on subjects such as innovation, digital technologies, developing human capital and good governance, including the fight against corruption, as well as public and corporate social responsibility. He went on to underline that the impact of digital transformation on security and co-operation in the OSCE area creates a still-uncertain scenario, multifaceted and full of contradictions. Picchi said: “Although the result of this transformation is still uncertain, there is no doubt that it is a global phenomenon that goes beyond national borders, requiring collective actions and close co-operation between the 57 OSCE Participating States.”
He then voiced the hope that the Forum debate “would help us all further understand the direction the work of the organisation should take in matters of economy and the environment, with a view to making the OSCE even more efficient in assisting Countries in managing the challenges and the opportunities of this increasingly digitalised and interconnected world”.
During the day, Undersecretary Picchi also met with the Czech Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivo Sramek, to discuss, among other topics, the performance of the Italian OSCE Chairmanship and the preparation of the OSCE Ministerial Council scheduled for December in Milan.
