2018 OSCE Annual Security Review Conference opens in Vienna

Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Guglielmo Picchi, opened in Vienna today the OSCE Annual Security Review Conference, on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE.

In his opening address, Undersecretary Picchi underlined that, being the OSCE the world’s largest regional security organization, there is a need to fully exploits its potential, with a renewed spirit of responsibility and owneship.

The Undersecretary eventually reconfirmed that addressing the crisis in and around Ukraine is among the priorities of the Italian Chairmanship and asked a renewed commitment to improve the situation on the ground.

He also underlined the importance of co-operation with the OSCE Partners countries, particularly with regards to those of the southern shore of the Mediterranean “with whom we are ready to dialogue on a variety of shared challenges, including that of managing orderly migration flows”.

In the margins of the Conference, the Undersecretary met with the OSCE Secretary General, Thomas Greminger, the Chief Monitor of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, Ertugrul Apakan and the Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Grushko.
