Italy’s Undersecretary\u00a0of State\u00a0for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, had a telephone conversation with Secretary General of the OSCE, Helga Maria Schmid, about the situation in Ukraine. During the phone call, the Undersecretary confirmed Italy’s continuous\u00a0support for the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (SMM), the unarmed civilian mission which is present in all regions of Ukraine. 15 Italian observers participate in the SMM and Italy finances about 11% of the mission budget, equivalent to about 9 million Euros per year.<\/p>\n
Undersecretary of State Della Vedova also expressed\u00a0Italy’s support for the Secretary General’s\u00a0letter to all 57 OSCE Permanent Representatives, calling on\u00a0participating States to refrain from measures that could further aggravate the situation. He recalled today’s telephone call between Prime Minister Draghi and Ukrainian President Zelensky, as well as the\u00a0current mission of Minister of Foreign Affairs Luigi Di Maio\u00a0in Kiev and\u00a0his upcoming visit to\u00a0Moscow on Thursday.
