The\u00a0prevention of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0is one of the OSCE priorities. The OSCE Department for Transnational Threats, and in particular the\u00a0Counter-Terrorism Action Unit<\/a><\/strong>, works closely with the institutions of OSCE participating States and with civil society actors on promoting policies and programs to prevent and counter terrorism.<\/p>\n

In this context, thanks to Italy\u2019s financial support, the OSCE has produced an\u00a0Arabic version of the publication “Understanding the Role of Gender in Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism and Radicalization That Lead to Terrorism – Good Practices for Law Enforcement<\/strong>“<\/a>. The handbook proposes a gender-sensitive approach to the complex phenomenon of radicalization and violent extremism. According to the handbook, certain stereotypes and preconceptions that often relate to the status of women in certain cultural circles can play a marked role in the processes leading to radicalization. With this in mind, the OSCE publication illustrates how greater awareness of gender issues can improve the ability of the police apparatus to prevent and counter violent extremism.<\/p>\n

The Arabic translation of the handbook, as part of Italy’s broader focus on advancing the\u00a0OSCE Mediterranean Partnership<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0through concrete actions and more incisive cooperation on issues of mutual interest,\u00a0was presented in February 2020 in Cairo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0under the auspices of the Arab League.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The\u00a0prevention of violent extremism and radicalization that lead to terrorism\u00a0is one of the OSCE priorities.
